The Fort Myers Beach Art Association Spring Juried Art Show “Defying the Ordinary” opened this week and will run through March 6 at the association’s gallery at 3030 Shell Mound Blvd.

The award winners of this show will be announced at the reception on Sunday, Feb. 16, which will begin at 1 p.m. with a painting demostration by artist Joann Sanborn. These events are sponsored by Smokin Oyster Brewery, Oyster Bay RV Park & Publix and are free and open to the public. All artwork in this exhibit will be available for viewing and sale until March 6.

Studio 2 will have a new show “Deux Amies des Arts”, which features combined works of Michele Barron Buelow and Helma Gansen on Feb. 8-20. The Group from San Miguels Allende Tour will be showing their work from Feb. 22-March 5. JoAnn LaPadula will then take over Studio 2 from March 7-19 for her solo show followed by works of art from the Fort Myers Beach Art Association classes and workshops from March 21-April 2, after this show the annual Student Show will take over the entire gallery.

Other workshops taking place are “Stencil & Stamp Silk Scarves” on Thursday, Feb. 27, with Lynne Wesolowski; and “Straw & Negative Watercolor Painting” Thursday, March 12, with JoAnn LaPadula. Workshops with Mimi Little “So You Want to Try Acrylics” will be held on Friday, March 13, and “Work in a Series” on Saturday, March 14, which will be followed by Lynne Wesolowski’s “Alcohol Inks” workshop on Friday and Saturday, March 27-28. Information about these workshops are available on the Fort Myers Beach Art Association (FMBAA) website. There still is time to register for most one-day workshops.
