In honor of Veterans Day, the Fort Myers Beach Knights of Columbus Ascension Council 10318 will host a car show and cookout at the Church of the Ascension on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The event aims to attract a large audience by appealing to those who appreciate cool cars and have an appetite for good barbecue. Along with hot dogs and hamburgers, there will be several hundred dollars worth of door prizes which include gift certificates to local businesses.

Hank Rothenberg, a member of the Knights of Columbus and co-organizer of the show, said there could be anywhere between 20 and 30 cars in attendance.

This is the third year of the show. Past events have showcased vehicles from the 1920s to modern Corvettes, Rothenberg said.

“Last year a fellow was there with a car that belonged to Elton John,” he said.

Last year’s winning vehicle was a 1953 MG. This year, an expected highlight will be the 1949 Cadillac Convertible of Lani Kai Island Resort owner Bob Conidaris. The convertible was bought new by Conidaris’s mother, Rothenberg said.

There is a $10 fee to reserve your car at the show. Entrance to the show is free though there will be a cost for food and beverages. Veterans and first responders with identification will be afforded a free meal, Rothenberg said. All of the profits from the event will be distributed to aid disabled veterans, he said.

The show will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Church of the Ascension, at 6025 Estero Boulevard. There will also be live music and a DJ.

Those who want to reserve their car at the show can contact Rothenberg at 239-209-1009.
