Road construction on Estero Boulevard coming to its last phases
Construction has definitely left a little bit of fatigue on island goers, but with road construction on Estero Boulevard continuing through its phases, there’s a lot to be excited about.
“It’s one of those things, right? No one loves construction, no one loves traffic, this is something we all share. But once the road improvements and water mains and storm water lines are installed, you’re going to see a benefit to prior conditions,” Kay Molnar, of reFRESHFMBeach, said.
With the construction phases coming to more visible improvements on some of the beginning portions of the island, it’s important to take into account how much is going in to the Estero Boulevard project.
With installing new sidewalks and drainage parts of the road itself, especially in the busier sections of town that don’t have either a well-defined sidewalk or one at all, which is more of an issue down the beach than in the first mile or so of construction.
The drainage improvements are expected to provide a benefit over the current runoff systems, though rainfall isn’t something you can predict with 100% accuracy.
The current standing for the Boulevard is beginning to come together from the downtown area down to Strandview Lane, with sidewalks being finished or tidied up after the main thoroughfare has gone through it’s construction phase. The water mains that are being installed tend to lead the sidewalk construction by some distance, so keep in mind you’ll always see water main installation before anything else.
Phase 4 is where the water main construction is starting; at Lanark Avenue to Albatross Street, with the road construction following it once it finished it’s current movements from Strandview Lane to around Lazy Way
Construction is expected to continue unto the later portion of 2021, so keeping an eye on the website for reFRESHFMBeach will provide you the best information and the most up to date.
