Beach Baptist to hold a community Health Fair Sept. 9-13
Beach Baptist will hold a community Health Fair from Sept. 9-13.
Opening its doors at 7 a.m. each day, they will host medical professionals from all over to cover dental services, hearing tests, mammograms, reproductive service. A Lee Health Parish Nurse will be on hand.
The fair is open and available to low-income, uninsured or limited insurance and homeless populations.
“We’ve done dental trucks for five years, but we wanted to go a little bigger this year, so we’ve been organizing medical professionals from Southwest Florida to come out and give some of their time back to people who might need it most,” Pastor Shawn Critser of Beach Baptist said.
As access to health services is not always possible for people who have no insurance or homeless, this is a great event that might get people in a much better way health-wise, organizers said.
There are services that will be schedule-and-wait style, but the majority are expecting walk-ins to be welcome and available.
They’ll also have representatives from The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children and from the Homeless Coalition of Lee County to bring more awareness to sections of poverty that occur on the Beach.
“We’ve even tossed around the idea of setting up some digital workplaces for people to get help registering to vote. We’re trying to get as much positive done as possible in our community,” Critser said.
The coffee shop also will be available during these events.
After school child care, which is normally offered during the school year, will be used during the events to make sure people can attend and still have a way to manage their child’s supervision.
There can be exceptions made for early appointments, but it is best to call ahead prior to showing up.
“We’re excited to do something this big for people, I’m very happy to be a part of it. I hope our turnout is amazing,” said Johnette Nelms, office administrator for Beach Baptist.
