‘Let’s Flamingle’ sold out
The popular Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation Fashion Show, “Let’s Flamingle,” has sold out this year.
Fashion Show Co-Chair Tammy Garro said they are maxed out with 168 attendees.
“We have actually oversold,” she said, adding that they typically have around 150 attendees. “It was sold out before we started advertising. I think ladies like a nice luncheon and fashion and fun things. They are more willing to spend a little money if it is something fun like that.”
This year the Fashion Show and Luncheon will be held Saturday, April 6, at South Beach Grille, 7205 Estero Blvd. in the Santini Marina Plaza.
The Islander and Palmettos are donating the fashions to be modeled during the fashion show.
Truly Scrumptious is providing the desserts.
This year during the fashion show, they will do a something special, a Send a Kid to Camp auction.
“We are working really hard to send as many kids as possible to summer camp because there are so many families on the beach that cannot afford to send their kids,” she said. “We are trying to give more and give kids the opportunities to go to camp.”
The event will also feature silent and chance auction items that attendees can view when the doors open.
“Lunch will be served and the emcee will start the event. We let them eat and mingle a little bit. Once the desserts are out the fashion show will start for an hour,” Garro said.
Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation Director Alicia Steinhagen said they respond to charity requests from the island, which is partially what the money raised during the fashion show will go towards.
“This year we have had nine different requests that have come in,” she said. “Last year we gave to 10, of 11 different organizations on the beach. We are looking at programs that are addressing the biggest needs, the most vulnerable that are all on the beach.”
The money will also go towards scholarships. Last year three recipients received a scholarship.
The foundation, Steinhagen said is growing, in terms of members. This year they have well over 100 members, both of whom are seasonal and full-time residents.
“There are lots of ways we continue to get involved in the community year round and that growing membership is helping us do that,” she said.
