Cletus Poser promoted to Beach Library director

The Fort Myers Beach Library Board promoted Cletus Poser from the interim director to director of the Fort Myers Beach Library.
“I have had all the support and help that is possible to get,” Poser said of switching positions. “That transition has proved to be a lot easier than I ever expected it to be.”
In August 2003, he joined the staff of the Fort Myers Beach Library as the head of reference on the second floor. He said he got to meet quite a few people that visited the library in this position, all while learning circulation and the activities of the library.
The change in position from reference to interim director to director has been a gradual easy learning process.
“I have really grown during this entire process. It’s been a positive experience for me,” he said.
Before coming to Fort Myers Beach he worked at Central Florida Community College, as well as a high school teacher.
“I was up in Minnesota. They have winters up there. Coming to Florida they had a good program at UCF. I was apart of the education scene. It gave me some familiarity in standing before a group,” Poser said.
While working in the education field, he said he was always next to a library. The switch to his new career took shape, he said because it fit his personality very well.
Poser said the previous director Dr. Leroy Hommerding had a vision and a skill of looking into the future.
“This library would not be here without Dr. Hommerding’s perseverance and ideas of what could be possible,” he said. “The library would not be here without Dr. Hommerding’s vision. I think that is the most important thing to remember. All things work together for the good if we focus on that.”
One project that will be brought before the library board soon, is a butterfly garden near the parking garage. The garden will be part of a memorial for Hommerding.
“I’m looking at minor things,” he said of what he hopes to accomplish in the near future. “I’m not expecting to make any major changes. Everything is working well at the moment.”
