Calling all incoming kindergarten students

2 min read

All children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1 are invited to the Beach School’s Kindergarten Round-Up, which will be held Tuesday April 9.

Beach School Principal’s Secretary Renee Mulloy said they are trying to get all the kids who will be attending kindergarten during the 2019-2020 school year to come in next month to experience kindergarten from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

The child and parent meet Principal Karen Manzi and are given paperwork for enrollment. Mulloy said the principal also gives them a tour of the school before they meet the kindergarten teacher, Tina Cribbs, in her classroom.

The incoming students have the opportunity to read together with the existing kindergarten students while getting to know the format of the classroom.

Each incoming kindergarten student is buddied up with an existing student.

Cribbs also gives a presentation, providing information of how the day is started and what happens every day in kindergarten.

The Kindergarten Round-Up also provides the opportunity for the children to go to lunch with kindergarten students, followed by an opportunity to play on the playground together for 15 minutes.

“It’s really nice because they meet the kids that are already in the classroom. They have a structure . . . their centers, reading time and math time. They get to experience that,” Mulloy said. “They are introduced to what it will be like when they come (to school.)”

The parent stays throughout the entire experience.

Before the child and parent leaves the school they are given care packages with a T-shirt and pencils.

Mulloy asks that parents RSVP by April 4. That can be done by calling the school office at (239) 463-6356, so they can take down their name and number to make sure they have their enrollment packages ready, as well as letting the cafeteria manager know how many incoming students will be attending the round-up event.
