Beach Kiwanis backs clean water causes
The Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis Club is supporting local clean water initiatives.
Captains for Clean Water, a 501(c)3 started by local fishing captains, held a fundraiser Aug. 17 at Millennial Brewing Company in downtown Fort Myers. The night-long event raised more than $45,000 for the organization.
Beach Kiwanis presented co-founder Daniel Andrews a check for $500 to support their mission.
“I asked Captain Andrew what their mission was, and he stated they want to advance education, awareness and scientifically-supported solutions to restore and protect marine ecosystems and our way of life for future generations,” said Kiwanis member Edward McCarthy, who presented the donation. “The Beach Kiwanis Club’s mission states that we are a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. The Kiwanis Club believes that both statements are supportive of each other and we are proud to help this worthy cause.”
McCarthy said he was also encouraged because both organizations are nonpartisan.
“We should vote for solutions, and not just party affiliation,” he said.
