Beach hosts Challenger British soccer camp
It was time for some football on Fort Myers Beach last week – but not the helmets-and-pigskin kind.
The Fort Myers Beach Soccer Club hosted Challenger British Soccer Camp from June 12 -16. Coaches Josh Hooper of Cardiff, Wales, and Jamie Hill of Dublin, Ireland, led more than 20 campers in a 1,000 touch curriculum.
“(It’s a) great camp with some great future players, absolute joy to coach,” Hooper said of his time on the beach.
The kids did drills and played fun games aimed at technical development of their game-time skills. Players received a personal evaluation with tips on how to improve their individual performance. Teams were formed for a “World Cup” Tournament where players earned teams points throughout the week by competing both on the field and through assignments such as facts and geography of the countries represented.

The Fort Myers Beach Soccer Club Season starts in July for U18 boys and girls born between Aug 1999 & July 2003. Younger age groups (U6, U8, U10, U12 and U15) start in early August for players born between August 2003 & Jan 2013. Teams are forming now. On-line registration is available at www.fmbsoccer.com.
