Sheena sings for beach students
It’s not every day the Beach Elementary School students get to have a rockstar perform in the cafeteria.
Sheena Brook, the Fort Myers Beach native who recently competed on The Voice, came to the elementary school during the students’ pep rally. Throughout the month of April, the K Kids Club organized a pet food drive benefitting Find a Home, Give a Home Rescue. The fifth-graders in K Club presented Isabelle Wells, the rescue founder, with 50 cat and dog food items Thursday. Then, Brook sang a few songs for the students and answered their deep, pondering questions about the life of a rockstar.
Brook competed on The Voice with Team Adam after Adam Levine chose her during auditions. She was dropped from the competition during the battle rounds in March, but said she was very thankful for the opportunity and it’s allowed her to expand her musical career. She’s able to start booking shows and original work now, rather than playing covers at the bar, she said.
Brook hasn’t quite adjusted to being a beach celebrity.
“It’s weird but cool,” she said. “I’m still just playing and doing my thing.”
On May 27, her EP (extended player) album will be released on iTunes and on disk. She’s planning a release party at the House of the Rising Sun art bar on San Carlos Boulevard.
