Fort Myers Beach man arrested for alleged sexual assault

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Fort Myers Beach man March 30 for allegedly assaulting a woman in an alley on the beach.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the beach after receiving information of a sex crime. The female victim said she had been walking north on Fort Myers Beach and caught up with two men going the same direction. The three started a casual chat before one of the men walked away and the other lead her to an alley and allegedly raped her.

When deputies arrived and searched the area, the victim identified her assailant: Samuel Vance, 35, of Fort Myers Beach.

He was also suspected of a burglary in the area which occurred prior to the assault. Deputies arrested him for both sexual assault and the burglary at 1:01 p.m. Thursday, March 30. He was taken to the Lee County Jail and is still in custody with a $132,000 bail. His trial date is set for Friday, May 5.
