After an extended altercation in the parking lot of Mr. Tequila’s and Key Estero Shops, Carmelo Naccarato was arrested Friday for breach of the peace and resisting an officer.

The problem began when Naccarato, 70, complained that a female driver had tried to run him over in his parking lot at the Shops. However the female driver also called law enforcement because Naccarato was swearing at her and threatening to hit her car with his fist and a chair, according to both the report and eyewitnesses. Naccarato manages the parking at the plaza.

A Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the scene; another followed shortly after and saw Naccarato yelling “very loudly” at the first deputy.

The deputies told Naccarato that his behavior, and use of multiple expletives, was unacceptable as the area was very busy with pedestrians and vehicle traffic.

According to the report, “Naccarato was not cooperative, he kept yelling and cursing and had to be told to stop multiple times.” He allegedly failed to calm down, and when the female driver was allowed to leave the scene he yelled at her and called her names while a group of bystanders watched.

When the deputies tried to place Naccarato under arrest, he got into his red Chevrolet truck and locked the doors. He allegedly refused multiple times to get out of the car, and when he did, he began to resist arrest and the deputies “escorted” him to the ground. While he was being handcuffed he yelled he “would make sure the deputies lost their jobs.” During the struggle, the man got minor abrasions and requested to be taken to the hospital, where he was “very difficult” with hospital staff, the report said.

The arrest was made at 12:37 p.m. Naccarato was booked into the Lee County Jail with two misdemeanors and a bail of $2,250. He posted bail and was released at 12:27 a.m.

A source said he was observed demonstrating similar behavior in the parking lot Saturday.
