Kids with Cancer Radiothon set for Friday
The 13th annual “Helping Kids with Cancer Radiothon” will be broadcast live from iHeart Studios on Metro Parkway in Fort Myers over Cat Country 107.1 FM from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. this Friday, Jan. 16.
The radiothon benefits Barbara’s Friends, the Golisano Children’s Hospital Cancer Fund. Young cancer patients and family members will share their stories of recovery on-air. Physicians, nurses and caregivers will also provide insight into helping patients who are battling cancer.
One hundred percent of funds donated to Barbara’s Friends, including all proceeds from the annual “Helping Kids with Cancer Radiothon,” goes to help children with cancer and blood disorders, providing vital medical equipment, clinical support, counseling services and more to patients and their families. In particular, Barbara’s Friends has pledged $10 million toward the building of the Barbara’s Friends Hematology Oncology Center that will occupy the fifth floor of the new tower of the Golisano Children’s Hospital. The tower is now under construction and expected to open in April of 2017.
Local media celebrities will make special appearances to encourage giving, and representatives of local businesses will also be on hand to present their own special gifts to the fund.
Mel’s Diner, a major sponsor of the radiothon, is offering a breakfast on Jan. 16, from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., of two eggs, two pancakes, two pieces of bacon, coffee and juice for only a $5 donation to the children’s cancer fund.
While there, if you become a Guardian Angel with a pledge of $300, you will receive a $100 Mel’s gift card.
Supporters may tune in to Cat Country 107.1 FM or watch the event online at www.catcountry1071.com . Pledges may be called in anytime to 1-866-609-KIDS (5437).
