Fatal crash leaves Beach man dead
A three vehicle crash has left a Fort Myers Beach man dead.
Yesterday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the accident at Big Carlos Pass at approximately 1:05 p.m. Traffic was stopped due to the bridge being raised when a vehicle travelling northbound slammed into another vehicle while traveling an estimated 55 miles per hour. That vehicle then struck a third vehicle.
Several people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the at-fault vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries and died later at the hospital. He is identified as Walter Wah You Gouveia, age 78, of 6891 Estero Boulevard (apartment 341). There were no signs of impairment and it is suspected the crash occurred as a result of a medical event.
The investigation continues.
