Traffic fatality on San Carlos Boulevard
Last night, at 10:02 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a vehicle verses a pedestrian incident at 19041 San Carlos Boulevard, Fort Myers Beach. Deputies responded to the scene.
Due to the nature of the incident, deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit were assigned to continue the investigation.
Preliminary information revealed a vehicle was travelling north on San Carlos Boulevard, just south of Prescott Drive. The pedestrian was attempting to cross San Carlos Boulevard when she was struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the pedestrian is being withheld until notification of next of kin.
The driver, Anthony Bennett, age 60, of 19241 San Carlos Boulevard (unit #13) was driving his work vehicle for Beach Taxi. There were no passengers in the taxi at the time of the crash. There are no charges. The pedestrian was found to be at fault for the crash for violation of right of way for crossing San Carlos Boulevard in an area not designed for pedestrian traffic. There were no signs of impairment of the driver. The investigation is on-going.
