Council appoints committee members
The Fort Myers Beach Town Council reappointed members to eight of its advisory boards Monday and added appointments to vacant seats.
Having such dedicated volunteers in a small community means a lot to Town officials.
“It’s great to have so many people get involved within a Town,” said Vice Mayor Joe Kosinski. “The whole Council appreciates every thing that they do. It’s a great community, and we look forward to another great year with these committees.”
For the Local Planning Agency, John Kakatsch and Jane Plummer were reappointed to the seven-member committee, while Chuck Bodenhafer was appointed to a seat that was left vacant due to the expired term of a previous member that did not seek reappointment. The objectives of the LPA, which also serves as the Town’s Historic Preservation Board, are to further the welfare of the citizens of town by helping to promote a better, more positive community environment and to ensure that the unique, natural characteristics of the island are preserved.
For the Anchorage Advisory Committee, Gerry Trantina was reappointed to the seven-member board. There are two vacancies left on the committee. The AAC was established to advise staff and the Town Council on all issues pertaining to the Town’s public mooring field.
For the Audit Committee, Richard Cote and Dan Hughes were reappointed to complete the five-member board. The purpose of the Audit Committee is to serve in an advisory capacity to Council in the selection of an auditor to conduct the Town’s annual financial audit and for other purposes as directed by Town Council.
For the Bay Oaks Recreational Campus Advisory Board, Tom Myers, Rex Pontius, Rae Sprole and Summer Stockton were reappointed to complete the seven-member committee. The purpose of BORCAB is to facilitate the accomplishment of the Bay Oaks Recreational Campus’ mission statement and thereby to further the welfare of the citizens of the town and others utilizing the Bay Oaks Recreational Campus and its facilities, as well as to provide advice to Council upon request with regard to matters concerning the Bay Oaks Recreational Campus and perform such other duties as Council may, from time to time, assign to it.
For the Community Resource Advisory Board, Olga Carballo, Karen Haengel and Bobbi Kemp were reappointed to complete the seven-member committee. CRAB seeks to enhance the quality of life on Fort Myers Beach by creating a vision for the community. The advisory board intends to accomplish its mission through the promotion and implementation of such community activities as public education, leadership, volunteerism, beautification and recreation through the development and cultivation of a corps of community leaders and volunteers.
For the Cultural and Environmental Learning Center Advisory Board, Becky Werner and Lorrie Wolf were reappointed to the seven-member committee, while Rex Pontius filled the remaining open seat that was left vacant due to the expired term of a previous member that did not seek reappointment. CELCAB was formed in 1999 to oversee the Mound House. In 2006, the Town Council incorporated the development of Newton Park into the CELCAB mission. Both the Newton estate and Mound House properties were acquired with state grants from the Florida Communities Trust and adhere to similar objectives and interpretive goals to manage and promote the cultural, historical, and environmental resources of Fort Myers Beach.
For the Marine Resources Task Force, Ted Schindler and Bill Veach were reappointed to the seven-member committee. Cheryl Clark was appointed to the remaining open seat that was left vacant due to the expired term of a previous member that did not seek reappointment. MRTF exists to promote stewardship of our marine resources; to stop further damage and to rehabilitate Estero Bay and its surrounding waters, including all wildlife, plant life, and air and water quality; and to bring Estero Bay and its surrounding waters including the Estero Island shoreline to the point that they will continue to be the driving force of our economy, sustaining the quality of life in cooperation with all whose livelihoods or lifestyles depend upon the health of Estero Bay.
For the Public Safety Committee, Rexann Hosafros, Tom Myers and Jim Wray have been reappointed to the seven-member board. Alice Mack was appointed to fill the remaining open seat that was vacant. The Public Safety Committee shall address any safety and transportation issues specifically assigned to the Committee by Council for the purpose of the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of and visitors to the Town of Fort Myers Beach. The Committee shall review, discuss and evaluate the most significant safety and transportation issues within the Town. The Committee shall utilize methods that include, but are not limited to, public participation and forums.
