A 67-year-old San Carlos Island man lost his life during a pedestrian versus vehicle accident last Wednesday, March 6, at 9:51 p.m.

The incident occurred on San Carlos Boulevard, approximately 500 feet east of Main Street on San Carlos Island.

Preliminary findings reveal the pedestrian, identified as Gary Alan Pollock of 1130 Main Street, was crossing San Carlos Boulevard from north to south. He was wearing dark clothing when he was struck by a white, 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup truck driven by Beach resident Steven Taylor Bradley, age 19.

Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call and deputies responded to the scene.

Pollack was transported to Healthpark Hospital where he died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

Due to the nature of the incident, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit were assigned to investigate. Initial investigations revealed that Bradley was headed west on San Carlos Boulevard in the inside lane when Bradley’s right front headlight area of his truck made contact with Pollock. The impact knocked the pedestrian to the curb on the north side of the roadway.

The report stated Bradley did not see Pollock, but felt the impact, stopped his truck and immediately went back and found him in the roadway. Detectives have determined the pedestrian at fault for violation of right-of-way and are awaiting toxicology reports, as alcohol may have been a factor. The traffic homicide investigation continues.
