Council recognizes scholarship finalists
Beach Elementary students Eliot Lincoln, Gabrielle Owen and Tori Brauch were recognized as being finalists for the 2013 Carson Scholarship Award, an honor that went to Lincoln and was announced at the Council meeting Monday evening.
Qualification standards involve at least a 3.75 grade-point average, teacher recommendation as well as volunteer work and community service.
Lincoln is a fifth grader who loves Math and Science and wants to attend Lexington Middle School next year. He belongs to a fencing club in Naples, is a goalkeeper for his soccer team and practices magic as a hobby. He is vice president of K-Kids, a Beach Kiwanis group, and also helps clean the beach and volunteer at soup kitchens.
“When I become an adult, I want to be a Biology Chemist and hope to find a cure for cancer,” he said.
Essays on the subject of an adventure in your life that was scary at first or something you have done that sets you apart from others were sent to New York to be judged. A $1,000 college scholarship was given to Lincoln.
“All three are outstanding students who are heavily involved in community service and each one of them is deserving of the award,” said Beach Elementary Principal Larry Wood.
