Main Street closed until further notice
UPDATE: (Monday, Oct. 8) Lee County Utilities has received the results from the second set of testing and found the results within normal limits. LCU is lifting the no swimming and no fishing advisory for all of the bay side of San Carlos Drive from the Coast Guard station to the end of the street. Main Street is completely open as well.
UPDATE: (Saturday, Oct. 6) Lee County Utilities has received the first round of sample results for the area near San Carlos Drive. The results are showing fecal coliform levels within the natural background levels of the water, but will extend the advisory until the second round of samples that were taken today are received tomorrow.
LCU will provide another update tomorrow afternoon.
UPDATE: (Friday, Oct. 5) Lee County Utilities is issuing a no swimming and no fishing advisory for the next 48-72 hours for the following area due to a sewer spill: All of the bay side on San Carlos Drive from the Coast Guard station to the end of the street. The spill was caused due to a broken 24″ force main on Main Street.
UPDATE: A section of Main Street on San Carlos Island remains closed as Lee County Utilities workers pump out the area where a breakage in a line connected to a sewer system occurred.
Officials are now allowing traffic to drive down Fishermans Wharf, which was closed for a spell during the breakage incident. Main Street from San Carlos Boulevard to South Street remains closed during the pump out procedure and clearing of debris in the road.
A section of Main Street on San Carlos Island has been sectioned off due to a breakage in a line in the sewer system.
The Fort Myers Beach Fire Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office are blocking the section of Main Street from San Carlos Boulevard near the foot of Matanzas Bridge to South Street. At 8:54 p.m., Lee County Public Works Department arrived on the scene to help with the situation.
