Beach softball all-stars end season

The Beach Senior Softball All Stars wrapped up their season this week at the Section 6 tournament, exiting Wednesday night with a 7-3 loss to host Lehigh Acres.
Manager Mike Dagnese said the girls worked hard and played hard, but ran into some really good teams and came up short.
“It seemed like every time we hit the ball hard it was right at somebody,” said Dagnese, who also sponsored the team with MD Electric. “But they never gave up.”
Lehigh overcame a gutsy pitching performance by Beach hurler Kellie Torocco, who threw seven strong innings Wednesday, striking out seven and allowing only seven hits.
Seven different Beach batters got hits off Lehigh pitcher Kayla Hauser, but her grit and a solid defense kept the Beach girls off the scoreboard until the 6th inning.
The District 9 All Star team swept through the four-team tournament field for the win. Fort Myers Beach Little League is part of District 18, competing with Lehigh, San Carlos Park, Bonita Springs, Alva, Labelle and Immokalee.
Beach Little League is completing its 57th season. Little League is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing young people with recreational outlets and the benefits of team sports.
This year Beach Little League fielded more than 100 players on eight different teams. Home games are played at Bay Oaks Recreational Campus.
