LCSO reports Highway Interdiction Unit seizes eight pounds of cocaine
An alert Highway Interdiction Detective and his assigned K9 partner made a major cocaine seizure on I-75 northbound near MM 146.
On Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, at approximately 11 p.m., the Detective conducted a traffic stop of a 2008 Chevrolet Impala for following too closely and having a broken tail light.
The driver had a suspended driver’s license and stated she was traveling from the Miami area to the St. Petersburg area. A free air sniff of the car resulted in a positive alert being received.
A search of the trunk of the Impala revealed approximately 3.5 kilograms (8 pounds) of compressed cocaine, with a street value of approximately $125,000. The cocaine was destined for an unknown location in St. Petersburg.
