Foundation cleans up beachfront

Members of the Ft. Myers Beach Community Foundation organized a beach cleanup around the pier area on the morning on January 2nd. Recognizing that both great weather and New Year’s Eve fireworks brought large crowds to the beach, the Foundation hit the sand to tidy up. As is typical of other cleanups, the group found cigarette butts, plastic straws, beer bottles, water bottles and beer cans among assorted other trash. The group plans to schedule monthly cleanups this winter in addition to their Great American Cleanup event on April 21st. Anyone interested can call Alicia Steinhagen at 848.8773.
