What’s Happening at Chapel by the Sea
Chapel by the Sea was the first church on the island and remains a church for the community, welcoming all people seeking to know and serve Christ.
Pastor Maynard greets us each Sunday morning with “It’s a great day to be in the house of the Lord!” It’s also great time to be on Fort Myers Beach! The weather has been gorgeous, our friends are returning for the winter and the holidays are approaching.
Our fall activities continue to grow. This Sunday, Nov. 20, Laura Miller will begin a class for Adult Studies at 9 a.m. The class will look at what Presbyterians believe. With a 2011 special issue of Presbyterians Today as a guide, the class will discuss such topics as the Trinity, the uniqueness of Christ, the connection of Presbyterians, and the Sacraments. Following that, the class will turn to religions of the world. With so many of today’s issues concerning Islam in one way or another, we will begin there and then go on to other major religions. The class will use Huston Smith’s book, The Religions of Man.
Our ladies of Sew-n-Sews would like to invite you to join them on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 5 as they work on their holiday projects. Their efforts will benefit the children at Brightest Horizons and Guadalupe Center. Bring your lunch and plan to stay as long as you wish. Non-sewing as well as sewing volunteers are welcome.
Our Youth Group for middle/high school students will meet this Friday, Nov. 18, from 6-9 p.m. upstairs in the Christian Education building. We have a small, energetic group of gifted teens. In fact, we were recently treated to a beautiful solo in our worship service given by one of our teens, Dana Miller. Come join the fun and fellowship with our group; we’ll even provide dinner!
The annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at Chapel this year on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. This is a service of the Beach Ministerial Association. We invite you to join us and give thanks for the many blessings we enjoy. Please join us for worship at 10 a.m. Sunday. If you are unable to attend church for whatever reason our website has sermons, services and more available for your viewing. For more information on anything happening at Chapel please call the office at 463-3173 or visit our website at www.chapelbts.org.
Romans 12:1 (The Message) “Here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going to work and walking around life-and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.”
