Shell Point concert series begins Thursday

Shell Point Retirement Community recently announced the new lineup for its annual Fine and Performing Arts Concert Series. This series will feature five concerts in the Village Church auditorium located on The Island at Shell Point. The concerts, dates, and times are as follows:

– Dick Hyman and Peter Appleyard Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7:30pm

– Boston Brass Holiday Concert Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7:30pm

– Cantus, On the Shoulders of Giants Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012 at 7:30pm

– Amazed by America – Steve Amerson and Laurie Gayle Stephenson Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 at 7:30pm

– MozART Group Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 7:30pm

At the first concert on Nov. 17, pianist Dick Hyman and vibraphonist Peter Appleyard will perform “Swinging with Mallets & Keys.”

In the pantheon of jazz musicians, Dick Hyman and Peter Appleyard stand out as superstars. For these pros, swing is not a nostalgic souvenir from the past; it has a vital, take-no-prisoners energy. Their program, titled Swinging with Mallets & Keys, will invigorate your senses.

Dick Hyman, known as the professor emeritus of jazz piano, is also an organist, arranger, music director, and composer. His versatility has resulted in film scores – including most of Woody Allen’s – orchestral compositions, concert appearances, and well over 100 albums.

The career of vibraphonist Peter Appleyard includes eight years with Benny Goodman; extensive studio work; club, concert hall and television performances; and numerous recordings with the greatest jazz musicians of the last half century.

Tickets for the concerts are $35 each, or a season ticket of all five concerts can be purchased for $125, offering a savings of $50. An additional ticket option is available which allows purchasers to pick three concerts out of the five for $90.
