Pastor Appreciation Luncheon will follow morning worship

2 min read

With the worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, in Fellowship Hall, this year’s venture of “No Pews Floppy Shoes” will come to a close at Beach United Methodist Church. Pre-service coffee and pastry which have marked the informal summer schedule will be followed by the Hymn Sing at 10:15.

At the 10:30 service, the choir will sing an arrangement of “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah” based on a Welsh tune called Caersalem. Music and Fine Arts Director Doug Renfroe will sing a solo “It Is Well with My Soul” arranged by Joy Bowe. Pastor Jeanne Davis will give the sermon.

An informal hour of food and fellowship will follow the morning worship service.

A volunteer committee is preparing lunch for all persons present. Members, visitors, and friends will have an opportunity to offer love and encouragement to the Reverend Davis who has been re-assigned to serve her 16th year as pastor of the local church.

It was in June 1996, that the late Lay Leader Harold Shetler and other officials answered in the affirmative when asked if Beach United Methodist Church would be open to the assignment of a woman minister. Through the years the administrative decisions have passed through other hands; but each year at the Florida Annual Conference, the presiding bishop has re-affirmed the appointment of the Reverend Jeanne Davis to Beach United Methodist Church.

Davis came to Beach after having served churches in Merritt Island, Jacksonville, Sanford, and Geneva. Previously she had earned the Master of Divinity degree at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology.

The Beach United Methodist Church is located at 155 Bay Road between the library and the school. Services in the sanctuary on Nov. 6, 2011, will begin with a hymn sing at 10:15 followed by Morning Worship at 10:30. Visitors are always welcome. Casual attire is appropriate.
