Beach Kiwanis honored/ donate to project
The FMB Kiwanis are proud to announce that President Trinky Jarrett was honored with the Walter Zeller Fellowship Award at this year’s state convention. On April 16, 2011 Trinky and her fianc Robert were married. In lieu of gifts, Trinky and Robert requested their guests make donations to the Elimination Project.
The Eliminate Project is a campaign that the Kiwanis and UNICEF have partnered together to stamp out neo natal tetanus. This disease threatens millions of new born babies and their mother in some of the poorest, most remote regions of the world. An estimated 60,000 newborns and a significant number of women die each year from this disease. One baby dies every nine minutes.
Death can be prevented by a series of three vaccinations for a woman in childbearing years. The cost for these vaccinations is US $1.80. Through Trinky and Robert’s generosity, $1,645 was raised for this project. In keeping with their commitment to help children, The FMB Kiwanis matched Trinky and Robert’s contribution to the Eliminate Project making the total donation $3,290.
After receiving the award, Trinky and Robert engraved their wedding date on the back of the Walter Zeller necklace. We wish them a long and healthy life together. To find out more information about the Eliminate Project stop in the Thrift Shop or go to www.Kiwanis.org.
