LCSO reports wife charged in murder for hire plot
On Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received information about a Fort Myers woman seeking someone to murder her husband. Due to the nature of the allegation, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit were assigned to investigate.
The woman was identified as 40-year-old Bettina Desiree Quebbeman, also known as Bettina Desiree Meixel. On Friday the 9th, an undercover detective posing as the “hitman” called the suspect and arranged to meet in person. The suspect and undercover detective arrived at the agreed upon location where terms were discussed. Meixel promised to pay the operative $500 dollars on Tuesday, Sept. 13. The remaining balance of $4,500 dollars would come afterward in the form of personal property, the target’s motorcycle. She agreed to provide a photo of Jason Meixel, her husband, along with additional information needed to commit the murder at the next meeting.
Yesterday, at approximately 6 p.m., the undercover detective met with the suspect again. Mrs. Meixel handed over the cash, along with the photo and specific details of her husband’s daily activity. She confirmed the plans of the murder and the two left the meet. The suspect drove away in her 2011, black, Audi convertible. While traveling along Alico Road, a traffic stop was initiated and she was taken into custody without incident.
Bettina Meixel of 17651 Devore Lane, Fort Myers, Florida has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder for conspiring to commit the violent felony crime.
