Historic St. Raphael’s to celebrate 60 years
In 1951 the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Florida gave approval to start an organized mission on the island and St. Raphael’s Parish was born.
In observation of this special occasion, Historic St. Raphael’s is planning a six-month anniversary celebration beginning on Sept. 29, when the Town of Fort Myers Beach presents the parish with an Historic Designation plaque to be placed on the church building.
The Town will hold the ceremony in the Parish Hall located at 5601 Williams Dr. on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend this event and help kick off the 60th anniversary celebration that will last through February 2012 with special anniversary events being scheduled for each of the six months.
A special display depicting the church’s history will be set up in the parish hall and refreshments will be served.
