China Moon Festival comes to Bowditch Park
Beach Haus Productions, in conjunction with Calusa Ghost Tours and Lee County Parks and Recreation, will host a China Moon Festival event at Bowditch Park on Monday, Sept. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Traditional Moon Festival foods – including moon cakes, noodles in peanut sauce and seeded candy will be served as well as twists on the traditional such as matcha shortbread and candied walnuts. Guests can also sample a variety of China teas and pomegranate punch. As is also traditional, all will be served buffet style at a sit down meal.
In addition, local actress, Carrie Hill, will share one of the most famous moon festival legends. And, of course, there will be moon gazing.
The Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Lantern Festival, is among the most important of Chinese holidays. Always held on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, it is a time to gather in celebration with family and friends. The moon on this date is always rounder and more brilliant than at any other time of the year.
John Paeno of Calusa Ghost Tours runs the concession at Bowditch. “Both myself and Lee County Parks and Recreation are thrilled to host the first event of Laurie Nienhaus’ Beach Haus Productions. Bringing these types of events to our county parks is exciting and can help fund our parks.”
Says Laurie Nienhaus, “Bowditch is the perfect location on Fort Myers Beach to celebrate the Moon Festival!”
The ticket price for this event is $21 and reservations are necessary. Those wishing to attend the China Moon Festival can call Laurie Nienhaus at 463-1079.
