BUMC announces 2011-12 concert season

Beach United Methodist Church is pleased to announce their third annual HIBISCUS SERIES, beginning on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at 7 p.m. with THE SYMPHONIC MASTERSINGERS in concert.

This marks the tenth anniversary season for THE MASTERSINGERS. During their ten years of singing, they have become one of the area’s premiere choral ensembles, often performing with area symphonies. The “Chorale” will be featured for this performance. THE MASTERSINGERS are directed by Artistic Director Jeff Faux.

On Dec. 15, 2011, harpist Melody Anglin will provide a holiday concert. Ms Anglin has performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, both in solo concerts as well as in music festivals. She has played with Mannheim Steamroller, Dave Brubeck and the Three Irish Tenors. In addition, she is an accomplished composer and soprano soloist. Joining Ms Anglin on this concert will be bass baritone Douglas Renfroe.

January 12 and 14, 2012, will be a change of musical styles with Cabaret performances called “Sinful Sweets.” Favorite Broadway melodies will accompany delightful desserts.

February 16, 2012 will be the third annual “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” This concert will feature choir, soloists and string chamber orchestra. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be conducted by Dr. Douglas Renfroe.

March 8, 2012 will feature internationally acclaimed bass baritone, Douglas Renfroe. Dr. Renfroe has performed with major symphonies throughout the world, sung with Boston Opera, Sarasota Opera and Washington Opera, and has been a guest conductor at various music festivals throughout the world. Joining him will be soprano Lesley Frost and pianist Joy Bowe.

Concluding the concert season will be the PALM STRINGS QUARTET. This wonderful string quartet is comprised of members of the SWFL Symphony, and will present a varied evening of musical styles.

All concerts will begin at 7 p.m., with the exception of the February concert. A free-will offering will be taken at each concert.
