BORC Bash celebrates with party on Saturday
A community party to celebrate the date of a Town acquisition involving a long-standing recreational facility will be highlighted this Saturday.
BORC Bash is slated to have many free activities for the youth of all ages at Bay Oaks Recreational Campus on Oct. 1. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Everyone -BORC members and nonmembers- is invited to come out to show their community spirit.
Admission is free and includes family and children’s games, a free day of swimming in the Town pool and entertainment. Even food is free at the four-hour event.
“Bay Oaks invites the community to check out everything we have to offer,” said Randy Norton, BORC’s promotions, events, and athletic coordinator. “We will have free hamburgers and hotdogs for all. Soft drinks are available for purchase.”
Norton said Bash organizers will have a bounce house and games for the whole family such as corn hole, tug of war, a hula hoop contest and more. Turkleberry the Clown will return to the annual event and is expected to be painting the faces of anyone who is interested.
“The Beach Pool will be open for free. We will have informative booths as well as a few vendors selling goods,” said Norton, who listed groups such as Mound House, Lover’s Key State Park and the Fort Myers Beach Library on hand to provide informational brochures.
Officials encourage all businesses in the area looking for an inexpensive way to advertise to come out and join in. This will be a great opportunity to network within your community,” says Norton.
Bay Oaks has much to offer. The Town recreational campus provides individuals and groups passive and active recreational, social and community activities and events for both residents and visitors.
“We are starting all kinds of new programming such as a spinning class in a couple of weeks,” said Norton. “We are trying to get everyone involved.”
So, consider this an invitation.
“It’s a community party and a free fun event,” said Norton. “Come see what Bay Oaks has to offer and enjoy yourselves.”

During the event, Bay Oaks will also be hosting an NBA sponsored Dribble Dish and Swish contest. The NBA FIT/ WNBA FIT event, which is sponsored by Pepperidge Farms, is free to participate in. It provides boys and girls, between the ages of 7-12, the opportunity to showcase their basketball skills in a time-based national competition against their peers.
Last year, Joey Stahl won his age group bracket and went on to participate in the State tournament. He finished third in the state, just missing a chance to compete for the national championships.
