Men’s Basketball League kicks off with a bang
The Men’s Summer Basketball League at Bay Oaks began last Monday night with 4 games for fans to watch and enjoy a great game of basketball. This year’s summer league features 8 teams loaded with talent of all levels.
The first game of the season began with Randy Boy’s playing their first game in the league against the free agent team. The free agent team is made up of individuals whom want to play in the league but do not have a team to play with.
The game started off close before Randy Boy’s started to pull away by the half and from there they didn’t look back. The game ended 65-32 with Randy Boy’s earning their first victory. Anthony Monaco led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Adam Leicht adding in 18. Randy Norton led the way on the boards with 18 rebounds.
The second game featured a new team and a returning team as Da-u squared off against the new improved Fantastic 5. Da-u has dominated the YMCA leagues and decided to give the Bay Oaks League a try. They succeeded in upending the Fantastic 5 by a 52-45 score. The game was close and both teams traded punches all night, Da-u pulled out the victory in the end by outlasting them. Stars of the game included Aj Sarafian scoring 19 points 5 rebounds and Jameson Wallis with 9 points and 7 boards.
The 3rd game featured 2 returning teams that battled it out all last season with White Hot Fuego defeating Bonita Bills. Bonita Bills, led by Charlie Whitehead, is the most experience team in the league with many on their roster playing in the league for more than 15 years. Bonita Bills fought hard but, in the end, White Hot Fuego outlasted them in a close one, 45-38. Ellison Espinal scored 14 points to lead the way.
The final game of the evening featured the defending champions, Fish House Rainbow Trout, against the Young thunda katz, a team out of Lehigh Acres. Fish House started off strong and played great basketball. However, they were missing a few players and ran out of gas losing 59-42. Stars of the game were Mehmet Chingoz scoring 17 points and Kevin McCarthy yanking down 17 rebounds.
The men’s league plays every Monday night, so come out and support your community and watch a fun basketball game and enjoy tasty treats at the Bay Oaks concession stand.
