County partners with fire districts to provide free disaster preparedness training
Lee County Division of Public Safety/Emergency Management is teaming up with area fire and rescue districts to provide free Community Emergency Response Team training to residents of Lee County.
This partnership puts the “whole community” concept into action, as resources are shared to eliminate the burden of providing training and materials on any single fire and rescue district. Students will have a chance to interact and learn directly from local fire chiefs, disaster medical experts and Lee County Emergency Medical Service professionals.
Additionally, training will be presented in a two-day, eight-hour format on Saturday, July 16 and Saturday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants must complete both training days to earn a certificate.
CERT is a nationwide program that educates residents about disaster preparedness and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, animal rescue and disaster medical operations.
CERT members can assist others in their community or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.
Training will be held at Iona-McGregor Fire District Station 75, 15660 Pine Ridge Rd., Fort Myers.
