What’s Happening at Chapel by the Sea
Chapel by the Sea was the first church on our island and remains a church for the community, welcoming all people seeking to know and serve Christ. We are a mission for Jesus Christ and a church for all seasons-seasons of life-seasons of the year-seasons of our growth as Christians.
Vacation Bible School was held last week at Chapel and was extremely well attended by the children and families of beach residents and surrounding neighborhoods. Our topic was “Pandamania” where God is wild about you. A “wild” time was had by all and we invite all who attended to join us on Sunday mornings throughout the year. A special thanks to the Ft. Myers Beach Kiwanis for their sponsorship and support, and to Lin’s Garden for the delicious dinner we enjoyed on Friday evening. Thanks also to Melody Tibbs, Pastor “Pandamania” Pittendreigh and all the volunteers who helped to make it a successful week. Many of the children stayed at Chapel for the afternoon program. They were treated to lunch at Beach Elementary School which offers free lunch to children eighteen and younger each weekday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The afternoons consisted of trips to the pool, movies, and a visit from Lee County Sherriff’s Dept. and Lee Memorial Hospital to teach summer safety.

Our next trip to the Soup Kitchen in Immokalee is scheduled for Friday, June 24. Plan to join Chapel volunteers. The Chapel bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. and returns around 2:30 p.m. Call the office to reserve your seat.
Our monthly Service for Wholeness will be held this Sunday, June 19, immediately following the worship service, there will be a short service which will include prayer and intercessions for healing. Physical, psychological, mental, spiritual and relational problems all need to be healed in order to find wholeness and fully respond to God’s love for us. If you don’t need a special prayer, you may say a prayer for others. Sunday, June 19 is also Father’s Day. Thank him, pray for him, bring him to Chapel. Fathers everywhere- We honor you and wish to say “May God’s blessings be with you in a special way today!”
Sunday services are held at 10 a.m. followed by fellowship in Silver Hall. A nursery is available for children age two and younger. We invite you to be a part of Chapel by the Sea. Our next new member meeting is scheduled for August 7.

Community Vacation Bible School will be held Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17, from 8:30 to noon for children ages 3-12; doors open at 8:30. There will be after care available for those who need to stay after noon. This year’s theme is “PandaMania”- Where God is Wild About You! and is based on Psalm 139. Children will enjoy crafts, games, storytelling, music and more as they learn daily Bible points about how God listens to us, watches over us, loves us and gives us good gifts. The hours of after care are noon to 5:30 pm at a cost of $10 per day, per child. There will be a closing dinner and program for the families on Friday June 17 beginning at 5:30. VBS is a free event and is financially sponsored by the Fort Myers Beach Kiwanis. We encourage early registration so we may plan accordingly. Please call Melody at 560-2041 or visit Melody@Chapelbts.org with any questions. We invite you to join us and take a walk on the wild side!!
Chapel by the Sea has several missions that we support through donations, prayer, and volunteer work. One such mission is Beth-El Farmworker Ministry, Inc. We have a special hunger program at Chapel we call “Three Cents a Meal”. This is a quiet, special offering of the Presbyterian Hunger Program that speaks quite loudly when we work together with other churches through the Peace River Presbytery. Working together, we see the results of small acts done regularly such as contributing 3 cents each meal, each person, each day. Daily participation is a reminder of the reality of hunger for millions of our brothers and sisters in the world and in our own communities.
We recently received a thank you letter for our most recent donation. They consider us an important part of their ministry to the Hispanic farmworkers they serve in four different communities. These are: Wimauma established in 1976, Immokalee established in 2006, Arcadia in 2008, and last fall in Ft. Meade. Their summer work groups will be a part of many activities helping with maintenance tasks, leading vacation Bible School, working at a local farm to get a true feel for the life of a farmworker, and working to repair housing conditions in the local community. They have recently finished their first sewing class for nine members of the local community. This is one of five “skills” classes that Beth-El sponsors. Each is well attended and there is usually a waiting list for the next class. They are hoping to scholarship about fifty children to Cedarkirk Camp for a week.
Another of our missions is Brightest Horizons who begin their summer programs soon. They are planning eight field trips to various places to entertain and enhance the children’s learning experience. They are seeking sponsorships and donations. If you would like to sponsor a child for the summer, for a week or simply contribute to the cause, please call Tina or Jeanne at the office 481-2100. Let’s keep these and our other missions in our prayers .We invite you to join us on Sunday mornings at 10 am for worship and for any and all of the activities that happen at Chapel by the Sea. For more information call the office at 463-3173 or visit our website at www.Chapelbts.org.
