Former Beach school student receives honor
Former Beach Elementary School student Nicolas LaCorte, who now attends Bonita Springs Middle School, was recently honored at the “Do The Right Thing” Student Recognition ceremony -supported and organized by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to reinforce positive behavior among youths and to establish students as role models for their peers.
Bonita Middle Assistant Principal Bob Scallan nominated LaCorte. Principal Linda Mitchell and Guidance Counselor Vivian Colon also helped in the nomination.
In his nomination letter, Scallan explained his reason for choosing LaCorte for the honor. He states:
“Everyone handles adversity in their lives differently. For some, the situations they face are overbearing, and for others, they use the roadblocks and pitfalls to their advantage to find strength and motivation to be successful. The latter describes Nicholas LaCorte. Nicholas has been able to look beyond difficulties to stay focused on important things in his life. It is obvious that Nicholas attends school out of inspiration rather than obligation. He maintains a 3.5 GPA, has recently earned a black belt in the martial arts, runs or bikes daily to keep in shape and is currently teaching himself the Italian Language. All of these are amazing accomplishments in light of the challenges that he has faced. To say that he is a model student would be an understatement. We are proud to have him as a student at Bonita Springs Middles School.”
Nicolas is 13 years old and is currently in the eighth grade at Bonita Middle. The ceremony was held on Thursday, May 26, in the Board Room of the School Board of Lee County.
