Beach school to participate in food program

2 min read

Beach Elementary School will be among the participating sites to be involved in the Lee County School District’s Summer Food Service Program called “Feed the Children” during the months of June and July 2011.

The Beach school will offer lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday thru Friday for age 18 and younger. The program begins this Tuesday, June 14, and lasts until Monday, July 18.

Nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age, or national origin during summer vacation when school lunches are not available.

All children 18 years old and younger, if it’s an open site, are eligible for meals at no charge and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. The programs are only approved for geographical areas of need where 50 percent or more of the children qualify for free and reduced price meals during the school year. Lee County District has nearly a 70 percent participation rate.

According to the Beach Elementary newsletter, Principal Larry Wood stated, “Any child aged 18 or under can get a free lunch served in our school cafeteria during these summer days, regardless of family income. There will be no questions asked or forms to fill out, as long as the child is 18 or under. Lunches will be served from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday. You must eat on site.”

The Summer Food Services Program sites that are located at schools provide meals to all children in the immediate vicinity in addition to those enrolled in summer school.
