Beach Elementary fifth graders –the eventual high school graduating Class of 2018– received high honors from their school officials during a graduation ceremony Monday evening.

Twenty-three students were granted academic diplomas from the long-standing Grade “A” school. After opening comments from Principal Larry Wood, awards were given out to for both academic achievements and fun awards especially designed for each child.

“We are very proud of the class of 2018,” said Wood. “We wish them the best in middle school. Get used to it, because these kids will be getting a lot of awards in middle school, high school and the rest of their lives.”

The end-of-the year assembly was held in the school’s cafeteria upon the stage, which has been used for plays and other activities. Fifth grade teachers Joy Rockwell and Jenny Fraley were instrumental in the students’ success.

Next year’s middle school students will be moving on to Lexington, Cypress, Bonita and other secondary schools.

The first two awards of the evening were significant. Gabriel Lincoln received the Carson Scholarship Award for maintaining a 3.5 grade-point average, while doing community service and submitting a winning essay entry about what they want to do as an adult. He captured the award over nominees Mara Benton and Megan Caldwell.
