2 min read

Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve will host the inaugural American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day at Matanzas Pass Preserve on June 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The friends will be joining more than 1,000 organizations across the nation to celebrate the positive relationship between humans and nature, health and conservation awareness.

This event was created to promote healthful lifestyles and community involvement in the care and maintenance of the trails, parks, and preserves in their neighborhood.

The day’s activities at this free event will include a Geocaching Scavenger Hunt, guided walks with Naturalists, a Stress Detox workshop, nature crafts, the Lee County Rangers wildlife/critter display, and storytelling with John Paeno of the Calusa Ghost Tours. Chef Dan Andre of the Mango Street Inn will be grilling up his famous Jerk Chicken to help raise funds for the Preserve.

With the goals of the event to foster healthy living and community involvement the Friends will also be hosting a Health Fair where attendees can meet local practitioners and learn about their services. They have invited professionals from a variety of health care practices such as yoga, massage, chiropractic techniques, and natural health and healing along with psychotherapy and western medicine.
