Estero Island Restoration Project report
Here is a weekly report by Lee County on the Estero Island Restoration Project going on at the northern section of Fort Myers Beach.
1. Lee County’s progress update (May 1-7)
– Construction installation of the 120-foot temporary sheet pile wall for the jetty was completed May 5.
– Roughly 25 containers of core and building stone have been mobilized to the off-island staging area with an estimated total of 400 tons of limestone rock.
– Florida Dredge & Dock relocated the dredge pipeline to nearby Matanzas Pass on May 5, where it will be staged on the water in 500-foot sections.
2. Lee County’s anticipated activities (May 8-14)
– Sand placement is expected to begin Wednesday, May 11. A delay in operations occurred in efforts to construct the temporary sheet pile and additional efforts to protect and strengthen the dredge pipeline.
– Layout of the submerged pipeline from the borrow area to the placement area was expected to begin May 9, with placement operations expected to be completed May 10.
– Delivery of two bulldozers is expected by transfer flatbed trailer to Bowditch Point Park on May 10.
– Jetty construction is anticipated to continue with installation of a permanent vinyl sheet pile wall, filter fabric and bedding stone being installed in the landward most 20-foot section.
