Candlelighters of Southwest Florida visit US Coast Guard Auxiliary Saturday
More than 50 members of Candlelighters of Southwest Florida, a group devoted to children with cancer, and their families will be the special guests for a day of learning about the US Coast Guard, touring the Coast Guard cutter “The Marlin” and sharing snacks and lunch with the crew at the Fort Myers Beach Station located at 719 San Carlos Drive.
“This will be a special day for the children” said Klair Snellbaker, Executive Director and Founder of the Candlelighters of Southwest Florida. “The children look forward to doing unique things as a family as well as being with their Candlelighters friends. “We anticipate they won’t be disappointed,” said Snellbaker. “We sincerely appreciate the USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 9-10, the crew of the USCG “The Marlin” as well as the staff at the Fort Myers Beach Station for allowing us to partake in the morning activities.”
Candlelighters has actively supported local children with cancer and their family members since 1982, that’s over 28 years of history in Southwest Florida. We want the community to be involved in promoting Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September) and help us boost the efforts to promote the Gold Ribbon as the national symbol for Childhood Cancer.
The Candlelighters host various programs throughout the year to bring our families together for enjoyable times and create lasting memories. There is no cost for the families to participate in our monthly programs; it is only through the generosity of community donors we are able to bring the smiles to the faces of so many children.
