Beach Little Leaguers gear up for post season
Fort Myers Beach Little League will be hosting Major Softball qualifying games for the District 18 Tournament of Champions this Saturday.
The Beach’s own Sunbirds will play two games on their own field at the Bay Oaks complex. The Beach girls, 14 beautiful and talented 9-12 year-olds, take on the Bonita Springs She Wolves at 9 a.m., with the loser of that game squaring off with the Lehigh Acres Gators at 11:30. The local portion of the tourney wraps up with a 2 p.m. game between the Gators and the winner of game 1. The winner will advance to the championship round, played Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Lehigh.
District 18 includes teams from those three communities plus San Carlos Park, LaBelle and Immokalee. The district also includes a Challenger league for kids with special needs.
Beach Little League includes 120 local kids from 4 to 18 years old. The Beach Seahawks and Eagles play in the Senior Softball division, ages 13-16, whose tourney will be played at Lehigh Acres this same weekend.
The Beach Rays and Phillies will play in the Major Baseball tourney for boys 9-12 beginning June 4.
Little League Baseball and Softball is an all-volunteer organization providing opportunities for recreation and growth for youth worldwide. Beach Little League has been in existence for over 50 years.
Admission is free. Fans can enjoy the fully stocked concession stand as they cheer on the home team and enjoy the Great American Game right here in our own back yard.
