Lee County celebrates strong spring training season
Lee County benefited from a particularly successful spring training season in March 2011.
For the first time in its 21-year history of playing spring baseball in Lee County, the Minnesota Twins sold out all home games. The Twins also set an all-time high attendance record. In addition, the Boston Red Sox sold out all home games except one late add-on contest.
The Minnesota Twins played 16 games and recorded 129,453 in total attendance with an average of 8,091 per game. The largest Twins crowd was 8,347 for the March 28 game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Red Sox played 16 games with a total attendance of 120,613. The Red Sox averaged 7,538 per game and drew the largest crowd against the Detroit Tigers on March 18.
