Friends of MPP announce National Trails Day
Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve will host the inaugural American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day at Matanzas Pass Preserve on June 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The friends will be joining more than 1,000 organizations across the nation to celebrate the positive relationship between humans and nature, health and conservation awareness.
Fun activities for children, adults are in the planning stages. Some activities include geocaching, nature crafts, guided walks, a mini health fair and raffles and prizes.

Friends of MPP add two board members
The Friends of Matanzas Pass Preserve have two new board members this spring.
Beach resident Julie Schwab and Beach Elementary Principal Larry Wood have joined the current board, which includes Ann Alsop, Carl Conley, Roger Johnson, Chuck Schmidt and Betty Simpson. The board officers are Tom Myers, president; Roxanne Smith, vice president; Lois Gressman, treasurer; Jim Rodwell, fiscal officer; and Dan Andre, fund raising. Its secretary is Amy Mallott.
The Friends’ mission is dedicated to the preservation, protection and enhancement of the natural and fragile beauty of Matanzas Pass Preserve and to create a legacy for future generations.
