Teenager arrested for robbery in Bonita Springs
On Feb.25, 2011 at approximately 3:48 p.m. deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred in Bonita Springs.
While walking to work, the female victim was standing on the southwest corner of Old U.S. 41 and West Terry Street waiting for the traffic light to change. As the victim waited, a Hispanic male rode past her several times on a dark colored mountain style bicycle. On the final pass, the male on the bicycle snatched the victim’s necklace from her neck before riding off. The necklace was valued at $400. The victim described the suspect as being six-feet tall, thin build, short black hair, and a lazy eye. The suspect fled the scene and could not be located immediately following the incident.
A few days after the crime, deputies with Delta District patrol in Bonita Springs came into contact with an individual matching the description of the suspect in the robbery.
On March 4, 2011, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Robbery Unit prepared a photo lineup. Among the photos was an image of 16 year old Manuel Zapata (DOB 08/03/1994). The victim positively identified Zapata as the person who snatched the necklace from her neck as she stood on the street corner while walking to work.
Zapata was arrested and charged with Robbery by Sudden Snatching. His last know address is 27670 South View Drive #143, Bonita Springs.
