Ostego Bay offers tour of million-dollar industry
San Carlos Island’s Commercial Fishing Fleet Tour is available each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon. Ostego Bay Foundation is continuing its three-hour guided tour of the Marine Science Center and the fleet tour (1 hours apiece).
The center includes a touch tank, hands-on beach area and several aquariums and exhibits. The tour then continues with a visit to the commercial fishing industry, including Erickson & Jensen Supply House, Trico Shrimp Company and Beach Seafood.
Experience first hand how the boats are unloaded, the trawl boats are built, the shrimp nets are hand-sewn, the seafood is process and other important factors used in the unique million-dollar industry.
Whether you are visiting, new to the area, or just haven’t had a chance to visit us before, this is your chance to experience this exciting way to begin enjoying our marine wonders firsthand.
The Marine Science Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for the tour is $15 per adult and $10 for children over 6 years of age.
