FMBCF tackles busy spring schedule
This past weekend the 2011 Fort Myers Beach Relay for Life, benefiting the American Cancer Society, was held at the beautiful DiamondHead Resort & Spa. The FMBCF is proud to report that they were number one in participant number and number two in fundraising with 24 participating members raising $6,654.
Prior to that event, Foundation member Dr. Nicole Bennett hosted a wine tasting at the Esterra Spa and Salon on Estero Blvd. on Feb. 18. It featured spring wine selections from around the world and raised $669, which was donated to Relay for Life on behalf of the Foundation.
Additional upcoming events include a rummage sale on Saturday, March 26, from 8 a.m. to noon. The sale will be held under the movie theater building on Estero Blvd. Proceeds from the sale will go towards club operating expenses.
The club’s second major fund raiser for the year is the Annual Spring Fashion Show and Luncheon. It will be held at South Beach Grill on April 9. at 11:30 a.m. Fashions will be provided by Anthony’s, and tickets are $30. Proceeds for this event will go towards projects and charitable organizations supported by the club. For tickets call 517-483-3477 or 765-1723.
Ongoing during the season has been the club’s involvement with the kindergarten classes at Beach Elementary School and their butterfly garden.
The final project for this spring is the Annual Keep Lee County Beautiful “Earth Day Trash Bash” scheduled for Saturday, April 16. The countywide litter cleanup campaign will take place from 9 a.m. to noon with headquarters at the Beach Elementary School. This site offers plenty of parking and the volunteers spread out to cover all of Fort Myers Beach. This is a day when all Lee County residents and visitors are invited to make a difference in their environment by cleaning up their own neighborhoods and communities. The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation is the local coordinator.
The Fort Myers Beach Community Foundation (formerly the Pilot Club & Foundation of Fort Myers Beach) is a local organization dedicated to working cooperatively to improve the quality of life in Fort Myers Beach and surrounding communities.
