World Day of Prayer is March 4
Women, men, and children in more than 170 countries and regions will celebrate World Day of Prayer, Friday, March 4, 2011. The local ecumenical observance will be hosted by Church Women United at Beach United Methodist Church, the church between the library and the school. The public is invited to come at 9:30 a.m. for registration and fellowship with the service following at 10.
Each year a different country serves as the writer of the World Day of Prayer worship service. The women of Chile have written this year’s service around the theme “How many loaves have you?”
In the past year, Chile has been challenged by a devastating earthquake and the collapse of a mine in which many miners were trapped. Founded on the idea that prayer and action are inseparable in the service of God’s kingdom, the March 4 service provides an opportunity for hands and hearts to touch the lives of sisters and brothers in Chile and around the world.
Persons from the Beach churches as well as Wilda Gastelu, a native of Chile, are adapting the program for the March 4 participation. For more information or to offer help, please phone Mildred Howarter at 437-9790.
