Tea By the Sea to benefit Ostego Bay Saturday

2 min read

It is teatime again down by the docks on San Carlos Island.

Officials at the Ostego Bay Foundation are gearing up for their annual Tea By The Sea this Saturday. The event will take place adjacent to Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Caf at 700 Fisherman’s Wharf this Saturday, Feb. 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Each table will be decorated differently with china and tea pots,” said Ostego Bay Foundation President Joanne Semmer. “It’s going to be great fun.”

Ticket prices for the event are $20 per person or $75 for a table of four. The fee covers tea, lunch and door prizes.

“We’re going to have a Chinese auction as well,” said Semmer. She described the Chinese auction as a combination of a raffle and an auction.

“We’ll put an item out and sell raffle tickets for it. There are containers in front of each item, and you can drop tickets in the containers for the item you want to win. For example there may be 10 items in the Chinese auction, and you buy 10 tickets. You can put them all into one container or spread them out in front of the 10 items,” she said.

According to Semmer, one can purchase tickets until the day before the event (Friday). But, don’t delay.

“Reservations are needed ahead of time so we can order enough food,” she said.

Lunch will be finger sandwiches, fresh fruit and petit fours, a small, rich teacake, which is frosted and decorated. As of Friday, the choice of tea had not been decided on.

The long-standing event has fared very well in the past. Don’t forget to wear your favorite tea party hat. You must play the part.

Talented volunteers interested in decorating some of the four-top tables are still being sought.

Proceeds will benefit the general fund of the Ostego Bay Foundation.

“Come on out and have a wonderful time at Tea by the Sea,” said Semmer. “It’s a beautiful location -right on the water- where you can meet old friends and new friends who you haven’t met yet.”
