The Greater Fort Myers Beach Area Chamber of Commerce has postponed the date of its 2011 Business Expo, which was scheduled to take place at Bay Oaks Recreational Center. The event, originally scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 16, had been moved to Saturday, Feb. 5, before the postponement was made official.

While confirming the postponement in an email reply, Event Chairperson Chris Heidrick of Heidrick & Company Insurance and Risk Management Services, LLC. stated the expo may be coupled with another chamber activity.

“We chose to cancel the event as we felt it would be more successful if combined with another event,” he said. “We are looking forward to doing something bigger and better in conjunction with another Chamber event in the near future. We have some ideas as to possible alternatives, but the Chamber has not yet made a final decision.”

FMB Chamber President confirmed the postponement via email as well.

“The chamber expo is being postponed due to the need for our businesses to be in their shops on that Saturday,” he said. Albion did hint that the 2011 Business Expo may be involved in an event later this spring or early summer.

In past years, the Business Expo event has encouraged chamber business members a chance to present their businesses to Beach residents and visitors in a different setting. Last year, the chamber held the expo at DiamondHead Beach Resort.

Participating businesses have been able to advertise their companies through displays, door prizes and other publicizing methods for a nominal fee.

The event has involved no admission charge for anyone wishing to view the public business display.
