BORC hosts fun Valentine’s Roller Dance
Last Friday, on Feb. 11, the Bay Oaks Recreational Center held a Valentine’s Roller Dance for young people ages 7 to 13. Everything was free, including the use of roller skates for those who didn’t have their own.
CJ the DJ was on hand to play music while the kids skated around the Bay Oaks gym. The husband and wife team of CJ and Cassie also provided the lighting, including a glittering disco ball and a kaleidoscope dance light that cast glows of different colors on the dance floor.
Some kids brought their own skates, but many more first-timers used skates provided by the recreational center. These newcomers to the sport made steady progress learning to skate but also took quite a few tumbles to the floor in the process.
Kids at the dance voted on a King and Queen. The queen was Lexi Hoerr, a student at Lexington Middle School, and the king was the popular young kindergartner, Rocco D’Angelo, from Fort Myers Beach Elementary School.
